SIP Scootershop Landsberg supports humedica refugee aid in Sicily

Jan comes from Pakistan. Thanks to the support by local humedica partners he was able to bring his family to Italy, too. Photo: humedica

Jan is an engineer. He comes from Pakistan and had to flee for political reasons. Mainly the support of local aid organizations enabled him to live now with his wife and his three children in Sicily. They took care of him as soon as he had entered the Italian country and assisted him when he spent the first weeks in a refugee camp. Later on, they continued to support him. Without their help he would not, for example, have been able to get the residence permit, which allowed him not only to work, but also to bring his family. Jan now engages himself in helping refugees, gives language courses and takes care of refugees living on the streets. He also decided to become self-employed in order to become economically self-reliant. He earned enough money for himself and his family by repairing technical appliances – until Corona struck.

There are many people like Jan in Sicily. Most of them have not been as lucky as him. They are stranded in a country, which is not their own, they are scarcely integrated and left alone with their traumatic experiences. Who lives in a refugee camp gets provided, but immigration applications are rarely handled nowadays due to the Corona pandemic. Even outside the camp life is on hold. Shops, bars and restaurants are closed, refugees, who survived thanks to temporary jobs are no longer needed. Form one moment to another, they are left with no income at all. A social net, like there is in Germany, does not exist.

Thanks to the donation of the SIP-Scootershop Landsberg our Sicilian partner could provide the refugees with food as well as gas bottles. In Sicily, too, it is cold in wintertime. As many refugees do not want to be recognized, we did not include their faces in this photograph. Photo: humedica

The local partner humedica Missione Tre Onlus has taken on to support the refugees. Thanks to the generous donation of the SIP Scootershop from Landsberg, Germany, we can now provide 30 families during the winter with food as well as gas bottles. In Sicily, too, it is cold in wintertime.

Our heartfelt thanks go to SIP Scootershop from Landsberg, Germany, for their meaningful help.
