Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren hosts #nichtvergesser exhibition
A thick knot in a no less thick rope – this is the symbol of the fascinating photo exhibition at foyer of the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren: an outward sign against oblivion. „Die Sache mit dem Wasser (The Water Affair)“ is the title of the exhibition, which is initiated by humedica as part of the Germany-wide campaign #nichtvergesser (those who do not forget) of the Foreign Office.
It´s aim: to remind us of forgotten disasters. It´s approach: to show the work of a first-class photographer. As of now presented at the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren.
The Berlin photograph Thomas Grabka was once called "the most daring among the cautious". Grabka is no adventurer, nobody who is on the hunt for the most sensational shoot. Thomas Grabka is a silent, always empathic observer, who has an almost unfailing gift to give disaster victims a face and to document sociopolitical or social contexts in a photography. Like in the intensive images shown at the exhibition "Die Sache mit dem Wasser (The Water Affair)", which can be visited for the next two weeks at the foyer of the Sparkasse in Kaufbeuren, Germany.
"When the Foreign Office asked us to take part in the campaign #nichtvergesser (those who do not forget) we already knew, that only few photographers would be able to portray our project in Pakistan in the authentic way we were looking for.", explains humedica spokesman Steffen Richter. "We are very glad that Thomas Grabka was willing to join in and that we are now able to present a project to the public, in the course of which small measures have already made a great difference."
Initiated by the Foreign Office, several international aid organizations cooperate for the #nichtvergesser (those who do not forget) campaign to remind the public of forgotten humanitarian crises by staging various activities and events. As each organization was asked to present one forgotten crisis in a specific country, humedica has chosen to feature Pakistan. The campaign aims to motivate the public to give more consideration to forgotten crises, to take an interest, to discuss them and to share information.
The forgotten crisis in the humedica project country presents an essential topic: the supply with drinking water. The exhibition "Die Sache mit dem Wasser (The Water affair)" shows quite impressively what humedica´s engagement in Pakistan means in particular for the women on site.
After the public opening reception on Thursday, the 13th of September 2018, starting at 6 pm at the foyer of the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren (Ludwigstraße 26, Kaufbeuren, Germany), you can visit the exhibition till the 26th of September 2018 during opening hours.
All interested visitors are welcome, explicitly including school classes and other groups. Guided tours can be organized on demand. Admission as well as guided tours are free.
humedica would like to thank the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren very much for providing the exhibition premises.
