Interview:

3rd Golf Cup Open for the benefit of humedica

Three questions to Dr. med. Astrid Offer

2018/09/28

For the third time already the 52-year-old medical specialist Dr. Astrid Offer from Cologne in Germany, a longstanding supporter of our work and founder of the humedica travel fund, has collected donations for humedica among golf enthusiasts.

Frau Dr. Offer, also the third Golf Cup, organized by you to support the work of humedica, was once again a big success! How has the golf cup changed since the first time?

In 2011, we started in the "Siegerland" region by organizing a golf tournament for members of the golf club GC Siegerland. We were able to collect a donation of 12.000 Euro then – a sensation! In 2016 we arranged a smaller golf cup for 25 participants only including the team of the national women soccer team by offering a trial course. Now, in 2018, we have organized for the first time a so-called "open tournament" for all golf enthusiasts, who were willing to do a good deed by attending. To attract 74 participants for this golf cup was quite a success. In my opinion we had a lot of fun as well as sportsman ambition and in the end we were able to donate 4.000 Euro.

This year our #nichtvergesser (#thosewhodonotforget) exhibition „Die Sache mit dem Wasser (The Water Affair)“ accompanies the golf tournament in Cologne. The photographs of Thomas Grabka, taken in our project country Pakistan, will call attention to forgotten humanitarian crises. Once and again, you yourself have called attention to our work with your two initiatives, the golf tournament as well as the humedica travel fund founded by you, in order to make sure that worldwide emergency situations do not fall into oblivion. What motivates these initiatives?

What motivates these initiatives?

Two really great projects! As a general and sports practitioner you already have a challenging job, how do you find the motivation and strength for your engagement?

This is quite easy to answer: I know that I am good at collecting money. I had already practiced it as a girl, when I had engaged for the church by going from door to door. Furthermore, I do love sports. And thanks to their pleasant ambience and comfortable premises such as club houses and restaurants, golf clubs in particular offer great opportunities to collect money for "Hole 19" (= donation box). I still love the idea for the humedica travel fund – as on the very first day!

Thank you from all our heart for both your commitment and this interview, Dr. Offer!
