Donation campaign raised 20.000 D-Mark

Successful end of campaign for Allgäuer Sparkassen and humedica

by LKO,  2017/03/15

The big donation campaign „ Papier zum Leben erwecken“ (Bring paper back to life) initiated by humedica and the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren as well as the Sparkasse Allgäu ran from June 2016 to the end of February 2017. The aim of the joined campaign was to motivate people to donate old D-Mark and foreign currency banknotes for children in need. The result is impressive: in the course of the last nine months the Allgäu people have brought approximately 20.000 D-Mark, a converted amount of exactly 10.116 Euro, to their saving banks for the good cause.

For 15 years now the D-Mark has stopped to be a valid currency in Germany, but, according to the Federal Bank, 12,76 billions are still circulating. In order to give new meaning to this currency now people had the opportunity to bring their old D-Mark to 26 Allgäu saving bank branches to donate them to humedica.

Manfred Hegedüs, chairman of the Sparkasse Allgäu and Winfried Nusser, chairman of the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren could now officially hand over the 20.000 D-Mark, which had been converted by the Federal Bank, to the humedica employee Bea Woitassek.

The campaign revenue will go to the children´s aid of humedica. In selected projects in Ethiopia, Brazil, India and the Kosovo humedica teams provide for the medical treatment, education and care for children from poor families offering them a better chance for their future. A part of the proceeds will finance about 5.000 hot meals and will thus preserve 20 children in Ethiopian slums for one year from hunger.

„We are really glad that so many Allgäu people supported our campaign by donating their D-Mark. We would like to thank all contributors. Our special thanks go of course to both the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren and the Sparkasse Allgäu, their support made our campaign possible“, said the campaign coordinator Beate Woitassek, when the donation was presented.
