Press Releases:

Donate your bottle deposit: Sustainable help instead of bins

Baden-Airpark GmbH, Der Grüne Punkt and humedica e. V. cooperate for the campaign „Donate your bottle deposit“

Every traveller knows the scenario: as both men and women like to be prepared for the small or even great thirst before a potentially long flight, they bring a plastic bottle with them. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to take this Corpus Delicti into the airplane, so that the sights in front of check-in control points are often alike: bins packed with empty or even still filled bottles. Thus every day a huge amount of bottle deposit gets lost and, furthermore, waste sorting remains a friendly theory.

At the Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FLB) the Baden-Airpark GmbH, Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH and humedica end this unsatisfactory situation by implementing a mature concept.

„Donate your bottle deposit“, this is the call the cooperation partners Baden-Airpark GmbH, Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH and humedica use to appeal to the passengers at the Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (FKB) Airport. In the course of this clever campaign all the plastic bottles, which can not be taken into the airplanes, are collected in specific containers. Volunteers empty these containers, sort the bottles and transfer them to Der Grüne Punkt.

The well-known Cologn company takes the disposable bottles and pays the equivalent of the bottle deposits to humedica, which will use it to finance international aid projects. The returnable bottles are also collected and transported to the official collection points to restore them to the recycling cycle. Also these bottle deposits will benefit humedica projects.

“We are very glad about this cooperation with the Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport and Der Grüne Punkt“, explains Cecilia Homilius, who is responsible for the realisation of the campaign at humedica. „Thus waste turns into valuable support for people in need. This is not only reasonable, but also a remarkable initiative worth copying.“

At the airport Markus Mußler, head of the Service Center Flughafenbetrieb, is responsible for the organisational support of the campaign. He, too, stresses the meaningfulness of „Donate your bottle deposit“:

„Having already thought about this problem for a longer time, we are even more delighted to contribute now to valuable help for people in need as partner of this cooperation.“

Martin Lausmann, project manager of Der Grüne Punkt, was engaged in the planning and discussions of the three partners from the start. From his point of view this is an optimal solution for the unfortunate scenario, which may be observed daily at all German airports. „I am very glad that the Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is part of this cooperation.“, he says. „This project is sustainable in the best sense of the word.“

With regard to the campaign “Donate your bottle deposit” we would like to highlight in particular the commitment of the humedica volunteers from the Karlsruhe region, who take care of the necessary daily emptying of the special collection containers right from the start of the campaign. We are still looking for more volunteers for this meaningful job.

The bottle deposit has a special importance for humedica as it will be used for projects, which receive less attention from donors and other sponsors.
