“Geschenke mit Herz" for children in Syria
A spark of hope in the middle of war and violence
For more than two years now, there has been a state of emergency in Syria, a terrible and cruel civil war has left its mark: more than 100,000 died, countless people were injured or have become homeless, refugees.
The original aim, to bring about sociopolitical changes peacefully, has been lost of sight since long. The inconceivable number of 2 million Syrian citizens has fled the country. Most of them are now living in the neighboring countries Jordania, Turkey, Egypt and Lebanon.
In Zahlé, Lebanon, humedica is present with a team which is procuring medical aid to refugees in mobile hospitals. The number of Syrians in this region alone has been estimated at 260,000. But humedica has also been active in Syria itself: At the beginning of 2013, humedica staff could distribute about 9,000 blankets against the cold in the north of Syria.
Armash Nalbandian, who is Bishop of the Armenian – Orthodox Church of Damascus, visited Bavaria at the beginning of October. At the humedica headquarters in Kaufbeuren, he reported about the distress in his home country, Syria and begged for help. “The bombs are coming nearer and nearer. I hope, we won’t have to cry over more victims.”
At the moment, he is working for the installation of a health care center in his parish, because there are medically trained people who could work there voluntarily. humedica is able to assure the provision of medicine and other aid supplies, which should arrive at the end of October in Damascus.
The situation in Syria is dramatical, but even under these difficult conditions it is possible to offer Christmas joy. Already in 2012, we were able to send “Geschenke mit Herz” (presents given wholeheartedly) to children of Syrian refugees; this year, too, 500 children in Damascus will receive lovingly wrapped parcels. humedica is making this possible, in cooperation with the Armenian – Orthodox Church.
We ask you kindly to support our relief measures in Syria, and also especially our wonderful Christmas parcel campaign “Geschenk mit Herz”. Perhaps you don’t have time, this year, to pack a parcel yourself? Please give a directed donation of 10 € and we will offer a parcel in your name. Thank you very much!
