humedica sends physicians to Lebanon

Aid is resumed

by Ruth Bücker,  2013/03/22

There are many news reports about the brutal conflict in Syria. About government supporters and opponents. About potential attacks with chemical weapons and bomb attacks on Syria’s neighbour countries. Yet the media quickly lose sight of the hundreds of thousands of people who are not responsible for the conflict but cannot escape this life-threatening situation either. humedica medical volunteers come to their aid.

The destination of the medical aid mission is the Bekaa Valley on the Syrian-Lebanese border. According to current estimates by the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, 370.000 people have already fled from Syria to the neighbour state of Lebanon; 125.000 have chosen to stay in the Bekaa valley and are dependent on help.

Like last year, humedica will support the local partner “Heart for Lebanon” in assisting the refugees over a period of six months. As part of the aid programme, humedica will send medicine and supplies to Lebanon as well as medical volunteer teams who will treat people on site.

The experienced coordinator Volker Baumann is already in Lebanon to make the necessary preparations for the medical volunteers who will arrive on Saturday, March 23rd. The team will consist of the paediatrician Dr. Elke Göhre (Berlin), the general physician Dr. Rotraud Lorenz (Kleinmachnow) and the children’s nurse Saskia Hankel from Bochum.

We mustn’t look away, we have to help these people” is the conviction of humedica managing director Wolfgang Groß. “Wars often provoke incomprehension and compassion with the victims is often less than with people affected by natural disasters. Yet we commit ourselves to help families who are in need through no fault of their own. For this, we need the help of our donors.

Please support us to assist refugees in Lebanon by making a specific donation. Thank you so much.
