Association “Münchner helfen” donates 50,000 €

The association “Münchner helfen” of the newspaper Abendzeitung München normally gives practical help to needy Munich inhabitants. However, in the case of extreme situations, like the typhoon catastrophe on the Philippines, the association also acts in favor of people outside of Munich’s city limits. Thus, after a call for donations in the Abendzeitung, 50,000 € could be collected and transferred to humedica.

“That’s a help for many people, who don’t have anything. And it expresses our gratitude for not being on the dark side of life”, explains Arno Makowsky, chief editor of the Abendzeitung the reasons for their commitment.

The humedica medical team has been in the catastrophe region since November 10th , 2013 and was able, after a few days only, to take over the “Mother of Mercy” hospital in the extremely destroyed city Tacloban. humedica managing director Wolgang Groß has just come back from the concerned region and was very glad about the association’s support:

“The situation in Tacloban is still very difficult and the people must rely on our help. The generous donation of the Abendzeitung enables us to treat even more patients. That’s why I want to thank every single donator, on behalf of the people there, with all my heart.”

humedica managing director Wolfgang Groß receives Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany

Wolfgang Groß has been committed to people in need for 34 years now and has been able, in the context of his work, to provide medical and humanitarian aid in over 90 countries of this world. For this work, he has received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, presented by the Bavarian Minister of Social Affairs, Emilia Müller.

Due to personal experiences of need in the Third World countries, Wolfgang Groß and his brother Dieter founded the association humedica in 1979. Currently, the association employs 32 salaried and several hundred voluntary staff members. However, Wolgang Groß, who was born in Allgäu, would never have thought that he would be honored with the Cross of the Order of Merit one day:

“I dedicate this honor to all salaried and voluntary humedica members. However, it is only with the blessing of God that we are able to fulfill our challenging tasks.”

The whole humedica team congratulates Wolfgang Groß and wishes him all the best for his future commitment and the blessings of God.

A little bit of Vietnam for the Philippines

In fact, the travel and photo journalist Harald Mielke hadn’t planned to give another presentation this year. However, when he saw the degree of destruction on the Philippines, he decided otherwise and quickly organized a fund-raiser on the subject “Vietnam – the rising star of South-East Asia”. The result: About 50 guests and nearly 600 Euro for humedica.

“When I saw the terrible images of the typhoon, I immediately thought about a way to help and decided to re-present one of my past presentations. I am completely convinced, that my donation is at the right place with humedica, explains Harald Mielke.

During his presentation in the Ballhaus of Schongau (Upper Bavaria), Harald Mielke, who was born in Allgäu and who is a passionate globetrotter, showed impressing pictures and stories of his journey through Vietnam to the enthusiastic visitors.

humedica thanks Harald Mielke and the visitors of the presentation very much for their support of the relief measures on the Philippines.

In 2013, the decision had been taken, to pack Christmas parcels, in Germany and Poland, for the great humedica campaign “Geschenk mit Herz”. This had been managed by FedEx staff member Katja Wollschläger.

On November, 14th, at Munich airport, FedEx staff members handed over 500 cardboard boxes of different colors to humedica managing director Wolfgang Groß and Nora Welti, fundraising assistant. The parcels were transported to the humedica headquarters in Kaufbeuren and, after sorting by volunteers they were sent to Eastern Europe.

“I have visited the FedEx cares webpage and am enthused by the many social activities of this globally operating company.

Of course, I am especially pleased about the fact that numerous FedEx staff members in Germany and Poland have taken part in this year’s Christmas parcel campaign “Geschenk mit Herz”, in order to give some Christmas joy to children in need. Thank you for the 500 Christmas parcels!”, says Wolfgang Groß.
