From A to Z: Antibiotics, bandaging material, canned food and more

Das Hilfsgüterlager von humedica

by Lina Koch,  2013/05/29

They are the basic prerequisite, the core of the work of humedica: the relief supplies in the humedica storehouse. Medical aid missions could not be carried out without medication. Reconstruction aid would not be possible without building material. Relief supply assistance would not make sense without food reserves. In a nutshell: without relief supplies, the work of humedica would be virtually impossible.

Dear friends and supporters, in the following we would like to give you a brief outline of the amounts of items arriving at the humedica storehouse and leaving it for the benefit of people in need. In order to do this, we will take a closer look at the stock of inventory of the year 2012.

The whole quantity of incoming goods in the calendar year 2012 amounts to the impressive sum of 6.152.894,98 euros. More than 98% of this amount have already left the storehouse again in the same year, in the form of relief goods. The composition of the relief supplies varied considerably given the diverse nature of the humedica projects.

A large component was made up of various types of medicine like antibiotics and disinfectants as well as medication for the treatment of respiratory diseases and influenza-like infections. With a proportion of more than 10% of the incoming goods, medication represented one of the largest components of the inventory.

Another relevant component of the inventory was represented by food items. Canned food and similar items amounted to 943.151,81 euros, i.e. more than 15% of the incoming goods. Another large part (about 14%) of the inventory consisted in bandaging material reaching and leaving the humedica storehouse in the course of the last calendar year.

Clothes also played an important role in the inventory of 2012. About six per cent of the inventory were made up of t-shirts, trousers and jackets waiting to be transported to people in need.

The large rest of the incoming and outgoing goods in 2012 was various in kind and indispensable as well, but cannot be described in detail here. Among these items there was wall paint and building material for reconstruction aid projects. Cameras, telephones and monitors for long-term projects were received and passed on as well. Hospital supplies like disinfectants, surgery tools and suturing material were received in the storehouse and delivered from there to the place where they were needed.

As mentioned above, more than 98% of the goods received in the storehouse were passed on to humedica projects even within the same year. Relief supplies amounting to a value of 6.058.604,24 euros thus found their way to people in need and poverty via trucks, ships or airplanes.

This year, as well, a large amount of relief supplies has already passed through the humedica storehouse. Trucks, fully loaded with medication, clothes or food items, leave the storehouse heading for humedica projects in the whole world to bring important assistance and urgently-needed support.

Dear friends and sponsors, all of this would not be possible without you. It is only thanks to your donations that humedica can transport such large amounts of relief supplies. Please continue to help us to help people in need. Thank you very much!
