Expansion of relief aid
170,000 persons are fleeing the war in their home country Syria. These desperate people are headed towards their neighbouring countries: Turkey, Jordan and the Lebanon. On the weekend, a humedica team will start medical aid projects in the Bekaa Valley and hence expand the existing measures for Syrian refugees. Furthermore, humedica is also working hard on plans for a mission directly in Syria.
Hardly any of the observers is able to aptly assess the current situation in Syria. However, what has been certain for months, is the fact that this conflict must be taken serious and in particular that thousands of refugees depend on targeted aid.
"Thanks to the cooperation with local partners, at the moment we can provide about 300 persons in the border region of Syria and Lebanon with food, sanitary articles and blankets", said Patrick Khamadi, project manager at the humedica headquarters in Kaufbeuren.
“Even tomorrow, on Friday, two honorary relief assistants will travel to Beirut and on to the Beeka Valley, where they will visit the refugees in their makeshift accommodations and offer them medical help."
The team will consist of general physician Dr. Martin Ulbricht (Zell bei Göppingen), the medical student Alexa Bareis (Munich) and nurse Cindy Chielens (Moorslede/Belgium), who will follow her colleagues on Monday; also coordinator Daria Napieraj (Berlin) will only arrive at the mission location next week.
“Although according to our sources of information, the situation at the emergency accommodations of the Syrian refugees is stable and secure, the people, above all the children, are still in need of proper care", explained Khamadi.
Furthermore, humedica is also planning to run relief projects directly in Syria. “A lot depends on the furhter developments, but apart from that our plans are taking on concrete form”, explained Wolfgang Groß, humedica CEO, who had been to Lebanon only three weeks ago, in order to assess the situation in person.
humedica would like to ask the people in Germany for targeted donations for the important relief measures for Syrian refugees in the Lebanon, and for all future projects:
