humedica information stand at a rally for the implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals
Next Saturday, the initiatives Deine Stimme gegen Armut (Your Voice Against Poverty) and the UN-Millenniumkampagne (UN Millennium Campaign) will call on everyone to “stand up” for the promotion of the United Nations’ Millennium Goals. Every year, millions of people participate in rallies taking place in the framework of the STAND UP Action Days in order to demand an implementation of the goals by means of standing up together symbolically. humedica will participate in one of this year’s events and set up an information stand in Bad Aibling.
Background of the campaign is the promise made by international governments to reduce global poverty by 50 percent, as was stipulated at the UN Millennium Summit in 2000. In order to reach this goal, the United Nations have established eight concrete and measurable objectives in the fight against poverty.
Besides fighting extreme poverty and hunger in the world, these objectives include primary school education for everyone, gender equality, reducing the infant mortality rate, health care for mothers, fighting dangerous diseases such as HIV/Aids, ecologic sustainability and establishing a global partnership for development.
These “Millennium Development Goals” are clear guidelines. The UN Millenniumkampagne in Germany has been committed to promoting these goals since 2005. Initiatives like Stell dich gegen Armut (Stand up against Poverty) provide a forum for organising stand ups or other campaigns with the aim of calling actively to the governments to realise their promise.
humedica has been invited to participate in the event and to inform about our work by the project Mut tut gut (Courage helps), which has lately been founded in Bad Aibling. Under the patronage of Felix Schwaller, Mayor of Bad Aibling, Mut tut gut and the newly-founded, affiliated association Mut & Courage Bad Aibling (Courage and Valour Bad Aibling) stand up for the promotion of civil courage in society.
Guests of the event will be provided with food and drinks, cake and coffee by Mut tut gut. Revenues will be shared between the participating associations and initiatives. humedica will invest these financial means in our projects in Haiti.
Under the motto “MAKE NOISE against poverty”, the event will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2009 at Marienplatz in front of the town hall of Bad Aibling. It will start at 11am and end at 3pm. The central stand up will begin at 2pm.
We would like to invite all friends and sponsors of humedica to participate in this event
