Further support by another humedica team

by Ruth Bücker,  2010/08/11

For about one week, the humedica team has been tirelessly treating patients and flood victims in the city of Charsadda. Up to 190 persons, who are suffering from infections, common cold, fever, severely inflamed wounds, diarrhoea or respiratory diseases as a consequence of the natural disaster, come to see the German team at the school which is now serving as a basis for medical treatment.

The honorary assistants of humedica and the Stiftung des Deutschen Instituts für Katastrophenmedizin (Foundation of the German Institution for Disaster Medicine) provide all patients with the treatment they need and they always have a sympathetic ear for their patients' fates. This is the purpose of their work and every day there are numerous grateful locals waiting for them. One of the patients told them that they were not used to doctors being present, caring for the patients and taking out time for them.

Meanwhile, the humedica team is expecting further reinforcement to arrive from Germany. After the paediatrician Toni Großhauser from Hamburg, who had already lived and worked in Peshawar for several years, arrived in the refugee city a few days ago, two further honorary assistants are currently on their way to the crisis area.

Two experienced coordinators Judith Kühl (Dortmund) ans Simon Gelzenleuchter (Uelvesbüll) arrived in Pakistan early this morning. Both of them had last taken part in a humedica mission in Haiti at the beginning of the year, have set out in order to live Charity in Action. You will soon be able to read their field reports on our homepage.

Furthermore, another team consisting of four members will depart for Pakistan on Monday, 16th August: the two doctors Dr. Ludger Blecher (Würzburg) and Dr. Helmuth Meyer (Göppingen) , a surgical nurse from Germaringen and Herbert Seitz (Gollhofen) as a nurse will take over the tasks of the first mission team and continue their work.
