15. International Encounter in Berlin (Internationale Berliner Begegnung)

On June 10 and 11, 2010 the 15th International Encounter took place in Berlin; it was organised and carried through by the Foundation for Basic Values and International Understanding (Stiftung für Grundwerte und Völkerverständigung). Besides members of the German Bundestag and the German Landtag, several high-ranking guests from various countries are invited to join the event in Germany every year.

The objective of the Foundation for Basic Values and International Understanding is to promote global awareness regarding responsibility for those living in poverty and misery. The foundation is financed by a non-party and non-denominational Friends Association.

This year, one of the most important guests was the Federal Minister for Development Dirk Niebel who talked to humedica CEO Wolfgang Groß and to members of other relief organisations and promised to support the work in Haiti.

The German politician had already had an opportunity of assessing the situation and the difficulty of offering relief measures in Haiti in May, during his trip to the Caribbean state. He had talked to several members of the humedica relief teams in Haiti and had promised his support regarding current projects.

Besides the articles on our humedica homepage, there are numerous reports on the internet, written by journalists who have had an opportunity of experiencing the work of humedica either while travelling to Haiti themselves or by means of holding interviews with members of the humedica relief teams.

We would like to provide the links below in order to facilitate access to at least some of the diverse reports about the projects of humedica in Haiti (in German).

humedica has continuously committed itself to different projects in Zimbabwe over the last few years; the latest commitment lasted more than two years until the beginning of 2010. In order to give us an insight into the situation of the people in Zimbabwe and of her work with children who have lost their parents due to AIDS, the nurse Patricia Walsh will hold a presentation at Haus St. Martin in Kaufbeurenon July 13, 2010, starting at 7:30 pm.

humedica has also been active in Niger for several years and only a short time ago the newly built humedica hospital in Kollo could be inaugurated. Due to the increasingly life-threatening food situation this hospital is urgently needed once more. Yacouba Seydou and his wife Renate, the heads of our local partner organisation HIS, will visit the humedica headquarters at the end of July in order to talk to those employees in charge of undernutrition projects in their home country Niger.

We would like to ask media representatives interested in an interview with them to contact our press spokesman Steffen Richter.
