Invitation: Bernd Domres and Robert Wunderlich report about mission in Benin

The flood in Benin is a silent disaster. No report about the misery of hundred thousands of people in the West African country makes it into the media. Therefore, in order to offer fast and sustainable aid, it is all the more important to make the public aware of the situation of disease and misery in Benin.

With the objective of helping the people, they worked together in Benin; in Tübingen they will report about this mission together: Robert Wunderlich (left) and Prof Dr Dr Bern Domres (right in the picture). Photo: humedica/Judith Kühl

The renowned medic Prof Dr Bernd Domres and Robert Wunderlich are inviting to take part in an authentic report about their humedica mission in the flood regions of Benin. In moving pictures that move the heart, the two speakers, who have already taken part in several humanitarian relief missions for humedica, will tell about their efforts to help the flood victims.

In cooperation with the humedica Forum Baden Württemberg and the Foundation of the German Institute for Disaster Medicine (Stiftung des Deutschen Instituts für Katastrophenmedizin), the event will take place on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at the church Christuskirche Herrenberg in Hindenburgstraße 22, 71083 Herrenberg, starting at 7.30pm.

Member of the German Bundestag visits humedica

Recently, humedica was honoured by the visit of Stephan Stracke, a member of the political party Christian Social Union. During a stay in his constituency in Ostallgäu, the politician seized the opportunity to meet with humedica CEO Wolfgang Groß.

Stracke furthermore visited the humedica headquarters in Kaufbeuren in his capacity as a member of the Bundestag committee “Health in Developing Countries”. By means of this visit he was told first hand about the worldwide medical commitment of humedica for people in misery.

Together with humedica employees Wolfgang Groß described the current projects in Benin, Haiti and Pakistan. Partly since the beginning of the year, humedica has been offering urgently needed humanitarian aid to the victims of the most recent natural disasters affecting these countries.

Stracke also proved to be visibly impressed by the long-term commitments in the framework of the humedica Provisions Aid Programme and the Family Sponsorship Programme. “The balance of activities and the untiring relief efforts humedica has undertaken in the 30 years of its existence can hardly be summarised. The work of humedica and the energetic people supporting and working with humedica, have always been and will always be an indispensable and life-saving anchor for those in misery”.,said Stracke.

During his visit, the politician furthermore became one of the numerous donors for the campaign “Gift from the Heart”. Stephan Stracke handed over his personal Christmas gift for a child from a needy family to the team organising the annual humedica Christmas gift campaign.

A summery thanks in cold days

While our thoughts are currently busy with imagining a cup of warm punch at the Christmas market, or a cup of hot tea in front of the chimney at home, humedica would like to extend a summery thanks to the company Roma KG.

They donated their time: Ernst Möller, Hubert Baumeister, Nicolai Schleier, Gerhard Liepert and Alois Högel, employees of Roma KG. Photo: humedica/Jürgen Jakoby

The company Roma KG from Burgau donated a new external sunblind for the warehouse with the adjoining conference room, the construction of which has been finished in summer. Definitely not for nothing, but for free, the employees of the Bavarian company equipped the building with the additional sunblind.

humedica would like to express its thanks for the sunblind with a value of 10,000 euros and for the time the employees invested. Although summer is still some time off, this extraordinary donation will certainly prove very useful as soon as the summer will return next year.

Together, we can achieve so much

An impressive amount of motivation was shown by Hans Jürgen Matuschak from Westendorf. Among 20 companies located in his hometown Westendorf he started a call to support humedica by means of a donation.

In this way he was able to collect 600 euros, which Mr Matuschak handed over personally at the humedica headquarters. The individual donors were: Adler Fertigparkett, Damen- und Herrenschneiderei Bauer, Einsle GmbH Profilleisten, Fischer Print Heißfolienprägung, the Fischer Sägewerk, the company Fischer Austrocknungstechnologie and the restaurant Grüner Baum.

Further companies taking part in the donation campaign were Heizöl Hendrich, Hohler Elektrofachgeschäft, Maimann Gartengestaltung & Pflanzenpark, Matuschak Friseurteam, Matuschak Massagepraxis, Mentner Werner Schlüssel & Sicherheitstechnik, Negele Kfz- und Landtechnik and Pschorr Metzgerei.

Also Rogg Zimmerei, Seeler Sanitär, Spenglerei & Heizung, Wachter Kfz-Technik, Walter Bäckerei and Wind M. Baugeschäft GmbH contributed. Thank you very much and have a blessed Christmas!
