EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI: humedica-team obtains permission to enter

by Simone Winneg/SRI,  2010/01/15

The first message we received from our coordinator Simone Winneg (Kaufbeuren) from the Dominican Republic is a positive one: In spite of some organizational problems, the team was granted entry and the onward journey in Haiti has already been organized.

Simone Winneg wrote: “We are standing at the Haitian border. A long long journey lies behind us. We haven’t had any problems at customs so far and we hope it will be the same when we cross the Haitian border. If everything goes well, we will arrive in Port-au-Prince in about one hour.

It is a near miracle that last night we managed to reach our contact person in Haiti and that he was travelling to the Haitian border in order to unload a team there. Having this occasion, we will change to his bigger vehicle at the border.

Here, in the Dominican Republic, we took the opportunity to buy some things: food and water are scarce in Haiti and no one knows how long food and which kind of food will remain available.

In Port-au-Prince we will put up our tents in the hospital run by our local partners. Apparently, there are already a lot of people waiting for us who have come there looking for help but couldn’t be given treatment and medication so far. We hope that later today (Friday) we will be able to help many patients there.

Please enable us to help people here in Haiti through a donation. Thank you very much.
