Children run for flood relief in Pakistan: run for 1,206 euros

by Sven Ramones,  2010/11/15

A creative idea was realised by kindergarten “Villa Kunterbunt” in Altusried in order to support flood relief projects in Pakistan. By means of organising a charity run for children, donations were collected which will be used for humedica flood relief projects.

Under the motto “The long Way to Pakistan”, an obstacle course was set up at the riding hall of Altusried for the children attending the kindergarten. The course had been arranged especially for this event and had been decorated with a lot of colourful, self-made flags by the employees of “Villa Kunterbunt” and the children.

Everyone from the youngest to the oldest participant tried to run as many rounds of the obstacle course as possible; this did not only include the children, but also the third Mayor of Altusried, Heribert Hartmann, such as district councillors and parents.

For each complete round, the parents, who acted as sponsors, donated an amount determined by themselves to the humedica flood relief. After the finishing line had been crossed several hundred times by all participants and dozens of excited children were short of breath, the total yield of the event amounted to 1,206 euros.

Monika Steinhauser, head of the kindergarten and initiator of the event, explained that the charity run took place in the framework of events the kindergarten “Villa Kunterbunt” organised every year at Saint Martin’s Day. Due to the flood disaster in Pakistan, this year’s focus was set on a donation campaign for Pakistan.

Before the event, the topic was presented to the children at the kindergarten. “Children are open-minded and enthusiastic. They are quickly ready to commit themselves to a topic,” said Monika Steinhauser. The initiator decided to seize the opportunity in order to help those who have lost their basis of life during the floods in Pakistan.

The entire amount collected during the campaign will be directly used for flood relief projects run by humedica in Pakistan. The projects benefiting from this financial support will be projects such as the reconstruction programme which is carried through in cooperation with local partners and currently is in its initial phase or the nutrition programme for undernourished children.

On behalf of the floods victims in Pakistan, humedica would once more like to express its heartfelt thanks to all the employees of “Villa Kunterbunt” who organised the charity run, as well as to all the donors and in particular to the committed and untiring young participants of the event.
