15 committed and notable personalities from politics, healthcare, church and society have founded the “humedica-forum Hesse” in Wetzlar.

Among them are Hans-Jürgen Irmer, member of the Hessian Landtag (state parliament) as well as Kreistag (county council) chairwoman Elisabeth Müller (both CDU) and Sigrid Kornmann, chairwoman of an FDP parliamentary group. Another member is Sibylle Pfeiffer, a CDU member of the German parliament and deputy chairwoman of the government committee for human rights and humanitarian aid.

15 committed and notable personalities from politics, healthcare, church and society have founded the “humedica-forum Hesse” in Wetzlar.

Among the other members are Richard Kreutzer, executive director of the Lahn-Dill-Clinics, county fire inspector Rupert Heege as well as Volker Zimmerschied, chairman of the association Menschen für Kinder.

The initiator of the forum is general practitioner Georg Müller (Albshausen) who also acts as deputy chairman of our association. In 1999, Müller had been the initiator of the humedica medical teams. One year before, he had been on a foreign mission to the slums on the outskirts of the Indian town Hyderabad, together with other Hessian doctors.

Inspired by the participants, Georg Müller promoted the continuation of this form of humanitarian aid which is one of the most important fields of humedica’s work today.

By means of the forum, humedica would like to establish a better local representation of its work in Hesse. Firstly, the forum members will be informed immediately about missions and will be able to suggest people from their region who might be able to participate in the aid mission.

Secondly, especially in the case of disasters, it is very important to promptly attract the population’s attention for the rapid implementation of aid efforts. Moreover, aid efforts by medical staff, rescue workers, companies and private individuals could be optimized with the help of the forum, according to Müller.

Müller announced that humedica will support the establishment of partnerships between hospitals in Germany and hospitals in the so-called Third World. A first partnership between the Lahn-Dill-Clinics and a hospital in Uganda is under way.

Already in October, a humedica-forum had been founded in Böblingen in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. There as well, notable personalities from public life have got involved.
