Relief is on its way

Whether food is urgently needed in Burundi, vital vaccines for the Philippines, hospital beds for Uganda or medical equipment for the Ukraine - the aid organization humedica is present in every poorhouse and crisis region in this disaster filled world.

In 1979, it started with only few employees, but a lot of work to do. Medicine, technical devices and food are now quickly provided wherever needed. Moreover, medical teams are sent to regions all over the world, where people are struck by a catastrophe.

The Beginning

As a result of their personal experience of the misery in the "Third World", Wolfgang Groß and his brother Dieter founded the association "humedica e. V." in 1979. For some years, the practicing nurse Wolfgang Groß administrated the association voluntarily, and then later as its only paid employee.

In our days, humedica consists of around thirty employees and in some times of the year more than three hundred volunteers. From the beginning until now, real effective help can only come from the exhaustive work of people, willing to help voluntarily, with all kinds of backgrounds and expertises.

In the middle of the 80's, Wolfgang Groß realized that only offering humanitarian aid was not enough, he also sought to reach the people through the love of Jesus Christ, unselfish in loving those around him and in sharing with the poor.

For many years, he and his co-workers are busy sending medical teams, food and equipment to disaster zones all around the globe. If required, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. He can be considered as a real workaholic, who has not been on vacation for years, particularly when business trips do not count as a holiday.

Actually, he already applied for nursing school in 1979, Wolfgang Groß says about the beginning of humedica. At that point of time, he spent a lot of time with other youngsters, who wanted to relieve the distress in the world, out of pure idealism. Their first money they made with a charity event and a friend offered his house as an office and storage.

It started so well, that I decided not to enrol at nursing school because I thought I could enter my studies later as well”, he remembers today. And that is the whole story; he never entered this school until today.

Many employees, club members of the charity and Christian communities form the main pillar of the charity. Not only the basic needs of humans, but also their mental needs are focused by the work of humedica. “Since I am a Christian, the single human being is much more in my focus. But nevertheless, I do not lose my faith and devotion considering all the misery in the world”, says the founder of humedica, Wolfgang Groß.

With one box of antibiotics, 1.000 lives can be saved, but if only one desperate mother does not lose her child, it was worth all the effort.

Assistance with Goods and Staff

With the help of private donators, public and private institutions and the aid of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, thousands of tonnes of relief supplies and numerous medical teams have already been sent to disaster areas.

Apart from smaller deliveries we send whole airplanes full of medical supplies and baby food to regions, which are struck by famines, like the Sahel or Ethiopia. Also if heavy earthquakes occur in Asia, Central America and the Caribbean or even in Europe we will be there to help people, who suffer from this misery.

We also help people, who became refugees because of political confusion or civil war. Not to mention the aid we provide in case of a natural catastrophe, like a hurricane or a flood. We also help to embank diseases, for example the cholera, wherever they occur.
